Frequently Asked Questions

How does digital prescribing work?

Paperless prescribing is enabled by the new digital portal of the public administration. It is a service where prescriptions and referrals are issued electronically without the need for a paper form. The physical presence of patients in the doctor’s office is not required.

On the patient’s side, the service must be activated on the new digital platform. The patient then contacts the doctor who is treating him and informs him that he has activated the virtual prescription. After the prescription is completed, the patient will receive a code with which he can pick up the medications from the pharmacy or make the referral to the diagnostic center.

Caution is needed when using this service. As clarified by the Panhellenic Medical Association, the non-material prescription is part of the medical visit. Under no circumstances should the new non-material prescription system be considered as an order for medicines. The doctor is not obliged to prescribe to a patient if he does not know him and has not examined him. It makes it easier for chronically ill patients, whose treatment does not change often.
